Checks, payments and applications happen only on the official portals: parivahan.gov.in/parivahan

Any AP e-challan, meaning a traffic fine raised in Andhra Pradesh, can be searched on echallan.parivahan.gov.in according to recent guides; that is the nationwide e-challan portal built by NIC under the central road transport ministry (MoRTH). Our research could not confirm a dedicated Andhra Pradesh e-challan website on a .gov.in address, so this page explains which routes are verified and which are not.

This website is a privately run, independent explainer; it is neither the government Parivahan portal nor AP Police, and you can only check or pay a challan on the official portal, an official app, a MeeSeva centre or at the police station named on your notice. If something changes, for example a new state portal is announced, we will note it in the box above this guide where we post confirmed changes.

Is there an official AP e-challan website?

Reports describe the Andhra Pradesh e-challan system as run by the AP Police Department. However, we could not confirm any AP e-challan page on a .gov.in domain, and no source we found named one. Two other addresses appear in many search results:

  • apechallan.org is linked from the "AP eChallan" app and described by third-party guides as the AP challan site. It ends in .org, not .gov.in, and we could not verify it as a government domain.
  • aptonline.in (APOnline, a state e-services joint venture) is listed by one guide as a challan payment page. It is also not a .gov.in domain.

We do not call either of these official. If you choose to use them, check the address carefully, and prefer the national portal described below whenever your challan appears there.

Checking an AP challan by vehicle number on the national portal

Guides updated in September 2026 say Andhra Pradesh challans can be looked up on the central Parivahan challan site using the vehicle number, the challan number or the DL number. No official AP source confirmed that every AP challan flows into the national system, so if yours is missing, check the paper notice or ask the traffic police station.

  1. Enter echallan.parivahan.gov.in manually in the browser bar.
  2. Open the check or pay challan option (the accused challan page searches by challan, vehicle or DL number). Button names on the national site get renamed now and then, so go by the wording you actually see.
  3. Pick vehicle number for an ap challan check on a bike or car, and enter the details asked for, plus the captcha.
  4. Note the challan number, offence and amount shown. You can repeat an AP e-challan check later using the vehicle number in the same way; the AP e-challan status then shows whether it is still pending or paid.

For the full national search options, read our e-challan check guide; we do not repeat them here.

The AP eChallan app: what is known

An Android app named "AP eChallan", from developer DataEvolve Solutions, describes itself as the official Andhra Pradesh Police traffic e-challan app. Its own listing says it works only for some police units, such as Visakhapatnam, Guntur and Kurnool, and its listed version dates from March 2019. It sends users to apechallan.org for online payment.

Because the listing is old, limited to a few units and points to a domain we could not verify, treat the app with caution. One third-party guide says Andhra Pradesh has no official e-challan app at all. For a mobile option, the NextGen mParivahan app is another way to pay challans held in the NIC national system.

Paying an Andhra Pradesh challan offline

If you prefer not to pay online, or your challan does not show up anywhere online, sources list these offline routes:

WhereNotes
Traffic police station named on the noticeListed by guides as an offline payment point
Traffic court named on the noticeListed by guides as an offline payment point
MeeSeva centreListed by guides as an offline payment point

Ask for a printed receipt and keep it with your vehicle papers. AP's "Mana Mitra" WhatsApp governance number (9552300009) offered about 250 services as of April 2025, but no source confirmed that traffic challan payment is one of them, so do not rely on it for challans. General payment problems are covered on our e-challan payment page.

AP bike challan: helmet and pillion rules

Helmet enforcement has been a focus of the AP High Court, as the next section explains. Under the 2019 amendment to the Motor Vehicles Act, Section 194D penalises riding without protective headgear: Rs 1,000 plus a three-month bar on holding a licence. Section 194C, which covers things like carrying more than one pillion, has the same Rs 1,000 penalty and the same three-month bar.

A state can set different compounding amounts, and we have not confirmed the current Andhra Pradesh amounts, so the amount on your challan is what counts. Our traffic fines table lists the other sections of the Act.

AP High Court directions on electronic enforcement

In Thandava Yogesh v. State of A.P. (WP(PIL) No. 116 of 2024), the AP High Court directed the state to enforce Rule 167A of the central motor vehicle rules of 1989 (CMVR), which covers electronic monitoring and enforcement through cameras and similar devices, including in cities such as Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam. Reports differ on the exact order date (26 May or 26 June 2024).

The court noted that Vijayawada's major roads have surveillance cameras but helmet rules were not being enforced, and it asked traffic police to report the number of helmet challans, physical checks and fines collected. The petition cited about 3,703 accidental deaths in the state, of which 3,042 were said to involve two-wheeler riders without helmets; these figures are as alleged in the petition. A lawyer or the local traffic police can advise on how this affects any particular challan.

Fake AP challan messages and lookalike sites

Since no AP challan page on a .gov.in address was confirmed, check every address with extra care in this state. In July 2026 PIB Fact Check flagged SMS and WhatsApp challan scams that use links, APK installers or PDF attachments to gain control of the phone and its banking data.

  • Do not pay through a link sent by SMS or WhatsApp. Type the national portal address yourself.
  • A message from a random mobile number, with no vehicle number and a threat of immediate penalty, is a red flag.
  • Victims should report the fraud on the government's cyber crime site or ring 1930.

Unpaid challans and licence or RC services

Ignoring an AP traffic challan can cause trouble later. The January 2026 national rules, as they stood in October 2026, let licensing and registering authorities pause DL and RC applications linked to ignored challans, and the Supreme Court has directed states to withhold vehicle-related services until e-challan dues are cleared. Clear up old AP challans ahead of a licence renewal, and use our DL status guide to track the application afterwards. Our home page lists every licence and challan guide on this site.

Questions people ask

Is apechallan.org the official AP e-challan website?

We could not verify it. It ends in .org rather than .gov.in, and its link to AP Police rests on an app description and third-party guides. Use the national portal echallan.parivahan.gov.in where your challan appears there.

How do I run an AP challan check by vehicle number?

Go to echallan.parivahan.gov.in by typing the address, choose the check or pay challan option, and search by vehicle number with the captcha. If nothing shows, check your paper notice or ask the traffic police station named on it.

Can I pay an AP traffic challan at MeeSeva?

Yes, sources list MeeSeva centres as an offline payment point, along with the traffic police station or traffic court named on the notice. Keep the receipt.

Is there an official AP e-challan app?

An "AP eChallan" app exists, but its listing dates from 2019, works only in some police units and links to a domain we could not verify, and one guide says AP has no official app. The NextGen mParivahan app can pay challans that appear in the national system.

How much is the AP fine for a bike rider without a helmet?

Under Section 194D the penalty is Rs 1,000, and the rider can also be disqualified for three months. A state may fix different compounding amounts, so the figure printed on your challan is the one that applies.

Can I pay AP challans on WhatsApp?

AP's Mana Mitra WhatsApp service offers many government services, but no source confirmed that traffic challan payment is included. Do not pay challans through WhatsApp links.
